Arbitrage

Industry and product terms

Definition

Betting both sides of the same event across different operators at prices that guarantee a small profit. It is legal, it is not gambling in the ordinary sense, and operators close accounts for it — which matters in recovery writing because "I was just arbing" is a common way a return to betting gets rationalized.

The original definition and sourcing warnings are retained. These sources support only the claims identified below, not necessarily the full entry.

  • In-play or in-running betting

Supports: Defines arbitrage betting as exploiting variation in odds across operators to profit regardless of event outcome and notes that bots can identify opportunities.

Remaining evidence gap: The source does not support blanket claims that arbitrage is legal, is not gambling in the ordinary sense, causes operators to close accounts, or serves as a recovery rationalization; these claims vary by facts or jurisdiction or lack evidence.
