Definition

A formal, usually legally binding request to be barred from gambling — filed with a state regulator, a multi-state program, or an individual operator. Once enrolled, the operator is obliged to close the account, stop marketing, and refuse entry or wagers for the chosen term. It is the single strongest tool a person in recovery can use, and no app can enroll anyone; only the person and the regulator or operator can.

Preferred phrasing

safe to use as written. Do not describe self-exclusion as a "ban" imposed on someone — it is requested by them.
