Definition

A gambling helpline launched in 1983 by the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey. NCPG licensed it nationally from 2022 until a New Jersey court returned the mark to CCGNJ in September 2025; it still connects callers to help but is no longer the NCPG National Problem Gambling Helpline™. Many state advertising rules still require operators to print it, so it remains widely visible.

Preferred phrasing

do not describe 1-800-GAMBLER as "the national helpline" — that is now 1-800-MY-RESET.
