Definition

The US three-digit line for any mental-health crisis, including suicidal thoughts, available by call or text 24/7. Gambling harm carries elevated suicide risk, and NCPG explicitly directs people in crisis to 988 rather than to the gambling helpline.

Preferred phrasing

"988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline." Say "died by suicide," never "committed suicide."
